Description:

(MAFIA) JOHNNY ROSELLI
(1905 - 1976) Handsome, dapper mobster for the Chicago Outfit who helped that organization exert influence over Hollywood and the Las Vegas Strip. Roselli, along with Carlos Marcello and Santos Trafficante, was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in a failed plot to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Shortly before his death, Roselli was called to testify before Congress on the Kennedy assassination but he was soon found dead in a barrel floating off Miami. Very rare, fine association A.N.S. on a small, decorated card once sent with flowers upon the birth of a boy, reading in full: '[Congratulations] On the new Junior Publisher of the Hollywood Reporter John Roselli'. Fine condition. Sold with the receiver's copy of a Sep. 3, 1962 condolence telegram sent by Roselli to the widow of WILLIAM R. WILKERSON (1890-1962): '...I did not see Bill too often in late years I always considered him my very good friend...You can be sure he will be missed and those who knew him will never forget him...'. Wilkerson was a real estate developer in Las Vegas and the founder of The Hollywood Reporter. He was one of the true first developers in Las Vegas, with the Flamingo Hotel (1945). Wilkerson named the hotel and then began the development and building of the property, but ran low on money. Bugsy Siegel soon moved in to help finish the hotel-casino with mob financing, and Wilkerson eventually sold out his share to Siegel. Very good condition.
