Description:

Great-content pair of war-date printed proclamations, each 1p. 4to., issued by Douglas MacArthur after the Allies reconquered the Philippines. The first proclamation, written in MacArthur's typically dramatic style, reads in part: "...I have returned. By the Grace of Almighty God, our forces stand again on Philippine soil - soil desecrated in the blood of our two peopleThe hour of your redemption is here. Your patriots have demonstrated an unswerving and resolute devotion to the principles of freedom...I now call upon your supreme effort that the enemy may know the temper of an aroused and outraged people...Rally to me. Let the indomitable spirit of Bataan and Corregidor lead on...Strike at every favorable opportunityLet no heart be faint. Let every armed be steeled. The guidance of divine God points the way. Follow in His Name to the Holy Grail of righteous victory!". The second proclamation declares that "the government of the Commonwealth of the Philippines is, subject to the supreme authority of the Government of the United States, the sole and only government...I do hereby announce my purpose progressively to restore and extend to the people of the Philippines the sacred right of government by constitutional process..." Some creases, minor staining to bottom-left corner, else fine.
