Description:

1074. MACARTHUR IS FIRED A newspaper account of public reaction to President Truman's firing of Gen. Douglas MacArthur as reported in The Baltimore News-Post, Apr. 12, 1951. The headlines include: "AIDE SAYS M'ARTHUR FOLLOWED ALL ORDERS...TRUMAN SAYS GENERAL REMOVED TO PREVENT TO PREVENT BIG-SCALE WORLD WAR...WHITE HOUSE FLOODED BY TELEGRAMS...WITHDRAW THIS SHAMEFUL ORDER...". The paper, obviously favoring MacArthur, reports on Truman's message to the nation given the previous night, sets forth the account of Gen. Courtney Whitney, his secretary, who claimed that MacArthur did not disobey any orders, and bears a front-page editorial declaring: "President Truman has done his reckless and ruthless best to destroy General MacArthur who did not agree with him and therefore most grievously offended him...President Truman has never supported General MacArthur adequately in the Korean War...". In very good condition and framed. Unexamined out of frame but it appears that the entire newspaper is present. $150 - 200
