Description:

M1 HELMET WITH 3RD INFANTRY DIVISION INSIGNIA
United States Army M1 steel helmet shell and liner. The shell features swivel strap bales and a seam at the rear, metal clasps attaching the straps to the shell, and a T1-style release hook, all of which identify it as post-World War II, likely circa the Korean War. The shell bears the painted insignia of the 3rd Infantry Division, a square of alternating blue and white diagonal bars within a blue border, at the front. The shell bears no further markings. The liner, also of post-war manufacture, bears the stamp of the Westinghouse company inside the crown, and a decal depicting the eagle seal of the U.S. Army at the front. A previous owner has inscribed his name, "John Harris", twice in black ink on the liner webbing, and again as "Harris" in white paint on the side of the liner itself. The exterior of the liner appears to have been repainted, and the grommet hole at the front is plugged with paint. The webbing and chin straps are all intact, with some drying to the leather chin strap of the liner, else very good.
