Description:

U.S. M1 bayonet, 10" blade, 14 ½" overall, as issued with the M1 Garand service rifle during World War II. The grip is of ribbed black plastic, with a birdshead-style pommel and a push-button catch just beneath the crossguard. This catch controls the both lugs attaching the bayonet to the rifle and securing it within its scabbard. The blade is blackened, with a square fuller running to the point, which is ground to a spear shape. The reverse ricasso is maker marked "U.C." for Utica Cutlery, above the initials "U. S." flanking an Ordnance Department "shell and flame", and the date "1942". The ricasso is marked "U.C. - Mod." with crossed cannons within a circle, indicating that the bayonet was cut down from the earlier, longer M1905 bayonet, with the modification being performed by Utica. The bayonet is housed in a green fiber M7 scabbard, unmarked. The metal fittings to the hilt shows slight oxidation, else very good.
