Description:

LYNETTE 'SQUEAKY' FROMME
(b. 1948) ‘Squeaky', follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. A.L.S., ‘Red', 12pp. 4to., Alderson, WV, June 24, 1980, to Nuel Melton, Charles Manson's biographer. In part: ‘…let off the actions of administrations on guards or any who are over a person in prison come without apparent good reason. Like there will be a rule and if you ask everyone you see who should know the reason for the rule and they can't imagine what the reason behind it is – it makes an insane feeling. (Robots walking around doing things w/o reason.) There are also 100 or so personalities to deal with every day. They each bring with them their own family thoughts and problems. Like you do when you come to see us. As we have talked, you have related the conversation to your personal life. We are generally talking from a view point over the planet as well as under the society. There are truths beneath the society that move it. Yet the society is unaware of having these undercurrents. There is truth over the planet that goes beyond what people personally think about themselves and the lives they live. One truth is simply we must have certain elements to sustain our planet. So when we talk, if we talk we will be looking from different viewpoints. The judgments you have or had on a crazy Charlie you once knew may be your own. (i.e. not from an objective viewpoint.) It is wise to check things out more than once. Being in prison in the hole or where you have to sit in one place is like (just to use an example) being inside a big machine. From the outside you see the machine as a large hunk of metal or a solid mass that represents some thought & function. Being inside is to know each part of the machine, its motion, its purpose, its rhythm. In government prison I can see the workings of the entire government. The military, the judicial, the legislative and the executive branches, which a part of the same machine. You find the same terminology, scales, forms, procedural set ups, job advancement steps and so on. If you picture being inside a big machine we/all the little wheels & things and you sit for a long time, you get to know first the rhythms & sounds of movement and eventually you see what each part does to serve the purpose of the whole machine.…' Fine.
