Description:

(b. 1948) 'Squeaky', follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. Pair of excellent items including an A.L.S. 'R' TO CHARLES MANSON and discussing making a robe for him, along with a color sketch of a shirt with swastika patch drawn by Fromme and sent to Manson for his approval. The letter is 2pp. 4to., sent from prison in San Diego, 1976, with hand addressed envelope to Manson and signed in full by Fromme at top. She mentions television advertising aimed at causing fear in people, continuing: '...I see that its a red robe you want and what I did with it and how Ford took it off to China I didn't understand at the time about the red robe and the importance of where it goes...I can get a deep red to make vest. Not bright but deep & dignified color. I am very particular about things for you and marks/colors...It seems best not to get ones you know involved w/us because they are all boys trying to find themselves and get balls back or get mom's approval...they have to wash all those past mom's reflections away first...I just found an old letter of yours that is perfect, right in keeping w/lines of thought between us, B[lue: Sandra Good] & me...I would like the red doll...I'm sending in here 2 photos of me...and some burning money...' In the same correspondence is a hand-drawn and colored sketch of a shirt with flared sleeves and multi-color yoke and cuffs. Fromme draws arrows to parts of the shirt, describing the details, and includes an inset showing the pocket with Manson's 'trademark' backward swastika. She writes at bottom: 'Please say which you like & send back'. Three pieces. From the estate of Manson's biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote 'Manson in His Own Words'.
