Description:

LYNETTE FROMME
(b. 1948) 'Squeaky', a follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. A.Ms.S. (unsigned), 14pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d., but written in prison ca. 1980] from Fromme to CHARLES MANSON. In part: '...I don't know what I would have done without Blue. While on my skirt tails she had her horns in my back and once she put Dutch over me said he was more right on than me or I'd never have written the letters that got me years...I rarely help anyone and I rarely ever have. Once I went with a Mexican girl for a walk...a little oldish man with a mustache pulled up...went to wash up in his bathroom...He came in...pulled his wallet and handed to her...and she went out...He came running...grabbing at her...I made no move to help her...True confessions...If I knew you really forgave me for all the thoughts thought that anyone thought were wrong and for giving to my own reflections and for accepting lies because I was too coward to see the truth of the lies...I don't know if Bees told you...that when the mouse was out he got his bosses to bring irish j. out and downtown to see him...' She goes on to describing a few letters received from ‘irish j'. In part: '...One said we should wake up - that you snivel all the time, and cry about what you done to a bunch of sheep women and children (like you hypnotized us)...We never answered it...' Fromme moves onto other topics quickly after this, in part:...I never could laugh - even with Eye, Gold and Duff - When they were getting off in letters...I'm mad you have to tell me everything before I realize it like I haven't got a mind at all...gotten a few letters from a kid in juvenile hall...It is hard to deal with the males...I don't want to dump the problems back on you so I'll keep the ACE letters for a while...how evil I feel...I see people like that - a Mary (Pat Hearst looked to me like a Mary when I first saw her)...' The letter ends with her describing the ending of the movie 'Rosemary's Baby', the last line in her letter being 'They all cry Hail Satan! and other things'. Fine condition. 'Rosemary's Baby' was thought by some to be an inspiration for the Manson Family's killing spree. The letter is stapled together at the top left. Attached to the end of the letter is an 8 in. x 8 in. paper with blue paint on it in no discernable pattern, presumably artwork done by Fromme for Manson's pleasure. Accompanied by a ‘tie-dyed' transmittal envelope. Some spotting throughout, else fine condition.
