Description:

LYNETTE FROMME (b. 1948) "Squeaky", follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. A.L. (unsigned) with envelope signed "L. Fromme" with prisoner number in return address on holograph envelope, 6pp. 4to., San Diego, [n.d., ca. August, 1976 to CHARLES MANSON. Fromme's letter, written on the verso of Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals forms, reads In part: "...I can be quiet - if it will keep you alive and out of our B.S. It's my illusion of you that I hang on to...I'm glad to hear you say you don't want me to die...I've heard Pat & Lou talk about faces & lies...there's plenty girls who would be available...I'm kinda ugly & funny looking - always have been - baggy clothes & hardly come out of my room. And I don't let no games play me - also I'm to the death on that...I wouldn't mind you touching me I wouldn't mind you killing me...I thought if I loved you what I saw as love - that would rise...I've used you as an excuse to do whatever I wanted to do and think. Without you the world's empty...I want to let you go - but I don't see how I can think that forever...It can and could all be blamed on me because that's where the responsibility is - then I could stick it on my mother...I love you..." Fine. From the estate of Manson's biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote "Manson in His Own Words" and during their collaboration, Manson gave Emmons some of his personal correspondence.
