Lengthy and fine content A.L.S. 5pp. 4to., [Alderson, WV], Feb. 9, [1980] to Charles Manson's biographer Nuel ‘Mel' Melton, with transmittal envelope. In part: ‘…Got a note from Hiles telling of his visit w/you & what an unusually wonderful person you are. I will [tell] you exact words when I find the thing – but I like the jist you have given in regard to him…Yeah I do relate to what Ch[arles] said about indeferences between us. He understands & knows me better than I do in ways and its not projection either. And me – is a big ME including you. I have to what I say to Wes because he views everything through bis training. That is VERY limited sight…Yes, if you come here and are alright with Ch I do want to see you…about B. Hunt, you should ask Charlie. Its part of that old Australian con talk. I thought you knew that…'. Fromme continues in a letter dated Feb. 14: ‘Thanks for letting me know about the commissary and the 12-string really makes me happy…The Captain here is a real dog…About the strange mail he's getting, a Polish Jewish nut JOE who is being rehabilitated (apparently) by Catholics send me crazy things…He sent me some stamps with Hitler's picture on them (real German stamps from the 1930s). They were used instead of regular postage, postmarked Jan. 1980…I can't think of anyone else who sends strange mail except another nut name Peterman…someone was playing tricks on us thru the mail…'. Spelling not corrected. Fine.
