Description:

LYNDON B. JOHNSON
(1908-1973) Thirty-sixth President of the United States and creator of the "Great Society" social welfare programs. America's growing involvement in Vietnam led to his declining a re-nomination as president. Fine association I.S.P. 9" x 9 1/2" b/w, clearly trimmed from a larger image, shows Johnson as President in the Oval Office in discussion with Hearst Corp. head Richard Emmett Berlin. Inscribed at lower blank margin: "To Dick Berlin from his friend Lyndon B. Johnson". Berlin (1864-1986) was a World War II correspondent who later ran Hearst's magazine division for 54 years and counted among his influential friends Richard Nixon, J. Edgar Hoover, Clark Gable and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Light discoloration to edges, a slight crease at bottom and tape remains to top margin on verso, very good condition.
