(1724 - 1790) American Revolutionary leader, a Georgia Signer of the Declaration of Independence who saw his estate confiscated by the loyalist Georgia government and later served himself as Governor. Very rare A.D.S. boldly signed at conclusion, again in fill in the text, and a third time as 'L. Hall' in a docket on verso. The document is 1p. legal folio, [n.p.], Dec. 1, 1785 - about two years after the end of his tenure ad Governor of Georgia. Hall submits 'The Petition of Lyman Hall' and notes the he is: 'indebted to the State by Bond' for 725 pounds, and to avoid confiscation of his lands, here petitions the Governor and Executive Council to 'accept Officers' Certificates duly certified in payment thereof...Considered as Specie in all payments of Purchases made of Confiscated property...' On the verso, the petition is docketed by Hall: 'petitn L. Hall'. Expertly inlaid and in fine condition. Ex: Sotheby's.
