Description:

LUFTWAFFE PILOT''S CHRONOGRAPH BY HANHART
A highly desireable timepiece, a 1 1/2" dia. wrist chronograph manufactured by the Swiss-German firm Hanhart, featuring a 17-jewel movement, a black face with radium-painted Arabic numbers, and with two inset dials counting seconds and half-hours. The watch is wound with the crown on the right side; placed above and below are two additional buttons allowing the wearer to halt the movement of the second hand and to reset it to the 12-o''clock position. The rear of the watch case is marked "Boden Edelstahl" ("Stainless Steel Case"), as well as "Wassergeschutzt Stossfest" ("Waterproof Shockproof"), with the serial number 118293. Watches of this type were issued to Luftwaffe aircrews as personal timepieces, in addition to the larger observer''s watches used to accurately time bombing runs. The watch is secured to the wrist by a period brown leather strap, showing much honest wear and several tears. The watch itself winds and runs smoothly, with the chronograph knobs functioning as intended, very good overall.
