Description:

A very rare article of Luftwaffe flight gear, a pair of grey-black leather flight trousers forming part of a two-piece "Kanal" (Channel) flying suit, believed to have been worn almost exclusively by pilots operating the Me 262 jet fighter. The trousers feature tabs at each calf fitted with metal snaps, allowing the attachment of wired heating equipment, as well as a buttoned waistband with a concealed webbing belt with friction buckles, fly zip, zipped ankle openings and webbing straps/rings for the attachment of braces/suspenders. A flap-covered internal flare gun pocket is present on the right-hand leg. All zips are original and in good working order. The fly and lower leg zips manufactured by "Zipp" and complete with leather puller tags. The side entry pockets have original heavy gauge plastic Ri-Ri zips. The interior is lined with brown rayon twill, the interior of the waistband also bearing a label reading "Gardt-Nr 142-52 Werk Nr [blank] Hersteller RB Nr 0/0915/00213[?]", with the Roman numeral "IIb" and the date "1945". Exterior equipment pockets appear to have been removed from the legs, with some wear overall, oxidation to the metal components and a few small repairs, else very good.
