Description:

LUFTWAFFE FIRST MODEL OFFICER'S SWORD WITH DAMASCUS BLADE
A most attractive early first model Luftwaffe officer's sword with Damascus steel blade and nickel-silver fittings. The pommel of the sword is fine with no appreciable dings or other damage and the repeating oak leaf design crispo and clean. The feathers of the crossguard are also in very good condition with no dings or other obvious damage, and the sunwheel swastikas on both fittings, though lightly scratched, remain very good. The original blue leather grip is a bit scuffed, but there are no tears or chips, and the double braided wire wrap is intact and tight. The blue leather-covered scabbard and also has nickle-silver fittings, undamaged, the uppermost engraved with a wreath of oak leaves. The leather on the scabbard is passable, though chipped in places, especially on the reverse and likely from use. The body of the scabbard is straight with no dents. The blade of this sword is spectacular - in untouched condition with a needle tip and an excellent design of repeating gentle waves and circles. A well-worn silver wire portepee is also included. Overall a fine piece.
