Description:

LUFTWAFFE FIELD DIVISION CAMOUFLAGE SMOCK
Original first pattern Luftwaffe Felddivision ground combat smock in Sumpftarn pattern camouflage. A first pattern smock with pressed stud buttons on the cuffed sleeves, both retaining 100% of their original thick grey paint scheme, shoulders are adorned with devices for attaching slip on shoulder boards, both with a thin tan canvas strap machine sewn to shoulder seam, and showing small tan painted steel dish buttons for termination, with one Luftwaffe Feldwebel shoulderboard being present. The Sumpftarn comouflage pattern, also known as the 'tan/water' pattern, consists of contrasting red brown and olive blurred edge color splotches, on a tan background with fine green line accents. Pattern is printed on the smooth fabric. A perfect second pattern Luftwaffe breast eagle, in the typical camouflage style of subdued grey thread embroidered on a green fabric backing, is machine sewn to the smock and is original to this garment. Front closure features tan painted large steel dish buttons and a single steel collar hook, with one of the original five buttons missing. Underside of collar is affixed with three small painted dish buttons, two on the right and one on the left, along with a tan canvas strap for closing the collar either to camouflage the neck, or for use in foul weather. Both underarms are vented with hemmed openings, and smock has two slash pockets, left and right, showing square front flaps with steel dish buttons painted tan. Interior of pockets are set to the inside of the smock, and are in a denim type material. There is also an inside left breast pocket constructed in the same way, with similar features, but fitted with a multi-piece sewn-in closure tab and the same style button as the others. Sides of smock showing belt hook holes, both in rows of five, hemmed into a reinforced area. There are no interior markings whatsoever, and there is a hanging loop on the interior at back of neck. Although faded from use in sun and rain, most predominantly to the back, the camouflaged pattern is still vibrant. All buttons have lost a majority of their paint, with exception of the two sleeve buttons. This rare and desirable button up smock is an honest combat-worn example showing some expected small rips and holes, some repaired.
