Description:

LUFTWAFFE CRUSHER STYLE VISOR CAP
Rare Luftwaffe Crusher Cap. Although technically not a true 'crusher' cap, as evidenced by the presence of the patent leather visor, this is a truly a unique, private purchase visor cap custom made in the 'crusher' style. There is no internal stiffening wire to the body of this visor cap, which is made of a grey tricot gabardine. Silver aluminum braid piping runs the perimeter of the cap top as well as the bottom of the main body of the cap, also present below the black woven head band. Bears an officers rank twisted silver/aluminum chin cord attached with two silvered aluminum buttons. The cap is adorned with all hand embroidered silver/aluminum bullion Luftwaffe insignia. This original second pattern Luftwaffe bullion eagle is an unusual type, hand embroidered directly to a piece of tricot material, seemingly matching the exact same material used to construct the main body of the cap. It is folded into a triangle shape and hand-sewn in place. A high quality oakleaf wreath and stylized wings are also all hand embroidered in silver/aluminum wire as well as the national tri-color cockade. Wreath shows grey and yellowed accent threads and the national tri-color cockade is constructed in black cloth thread and silver/aluminum wire threads, with the center being of red wool. The winged wreath and cockade are sewn directly to the cut-out black wool base which is also hand stitched to the black headband. The visors black patent leather bill is in good condition showing minor grazing and cracking throughout. The interior of the cap is lined with a tan colored rayon lining with an unusual ribbed pattern, which is hand-sewn to the caps body under the sweatband. The lining shows some wear and mild sweat staining throughout. The leather sweatband is fully intact showing light wear marks and a darkening to the front portion, the right side of the sweatband bears the stamped logo of the maker 'ELEGANT'. Partial diamond shaped sweat shield with no size stamp remaining, the cap is approximately a size 58. Worn from use, a few minor spots of mothing, else very good condition.
