LUFTWAFFE CAMOUFLAGE M40 HELMET
A fine example of a German M40 single-decal combat helmet, featuring a Luftwaffe eagle decal on the left-hand side. The exterior of the shell is hand-painted overall with a three-color camouflage scheme of tan, light brown, and dark brown, with sawdust mixed into the paint. The original bluish-grey Luftwaffe finish remains visible inside the helmet skirt. The left-hand side of the interior skirt it heat-stamped ‘EQ66', indicating manufacture by the Quist. The rear of the skirt is additionally heat-stamped with the batch number ‘DN239', with a very faint and illegible stamp visible inside the dome. The eight-finger liner if of reddish-brown leather, showing very little wear bit some soiling, stamped with the large size ‘59'. The liner band is stamped 1944. The chin strap is brown leather, colored black on the exterior, and unmarked. The exterior paint shows expected chips overall, with two large abraded areas showing oxidation, with some oxidation visible to the interior skirt, otherwise in very good, attractive condition overall.
