Description:

LUFTWAFFE AND WAFFEN-SS SOLDBUCH, BUCHENWALD SERVICE
Rare German soldbuch issued to a man originally serving with the Luftwaffe, letter released to serve with the Waffen-SS at the notorious Buchenwald sub-camp of Nordhausen-Mittelbau Dora. Flieger Karl Wilhelm Scheer was born 25 July 1903 in Darmstadt. He was drafted into the Luftwaffe in June 1941 and was first posted to Fliegerhorstkommandantur-Nohra Fliegerhorst Komp. Weimar, a post of the V-2 rocket factory at Mittelbau Dora. He then served with 1./ Flg. Ers. Abt. (Ob.d.H.), Aufkl. Staffel 3 and saw action in Russia. His last posting was to 2 Sonderinspektion IV. A 'glue in' of official transfer to SS, 1.9.44, indicates his service was in Weimar, at the Buchenwald sub-camp of Nordhausen-Mittelbau Dora. Punch holes at margins, else very good. These camps manufactured V-1 and V-2 missiles in horrific underground facilities. During the 18 months that the Mittelbau concentration camp complex existed, approximately 60,000 prisoners from 48 nations passed through it; 20,000 of them died as a result of the inhumane working and living conditions. On April 11, 1945, the Dora camp was liberated by the US Army.
