Description:

LUDWIG WOLFF AND HANS-EUGEN SOMMER
LUDWIG WOLFF (1886 - 1950) German General der Flieger, Commanding General of Luftgau XI from April 1939 until war's end. / HANS-EUGEN SOMMER (1901-1952) NSDAP district leader, Police Chief of Rostock, later served as a member of the Reichstag from Mecklenburg in 1943. Excellent D.S., 3pp. 4to., Rostock, Dec. 11, 1942, an official list of proposed recipients of the War Merit Cross, Second Class with Swords, bearing the names of four teenaged recipients and descriptions of the heroic actions they undertook. Interestingly, the document is labelled 'jugendliche' ('youthful'), and all four awardees are aged 15 to 17... quite young, considering they were nominated for combatting Allied incendiary bombs dropped on the town, fighting off the flames, carrying reports from the mayor, helping to recover 'the Golden Book' from a smoke-filled council chamber, etc. Both men sign on the front cover. Two file holes, staple hole and stain at upper-left, else very good.
