Description:

An interesting relic, multiple small pieces of Beethoven's hair recovered from an original manuscript of 'Vestas Feuer', an opera he composed. Accompanied by an original A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Germany, June 9, 1981, written by Clayton Westermann (1931-2018), a musician credited with publishing a finished version of the opera which Beethoven never finished. He writes to the president of the Beethoven society explaining how he acquired the hair. In part: '...I have been working with Beethoven's manuscript of Vestas Feure... it is fascinating!... in the enclosed tissue is something you might like to have. Towards the end of Vestas Feure, Beethoven must have had a haircut, for a few pages were imbedded with the residue. I carefully removed some with a tweezer and send them for your collection...' Matted and framed. Very fine condition.
