ROBERT L. 'SAM' WETZEL (b. 1930) American Lieutenant General. USMA 1952; company commander in Korea; commander of the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment in Vietnam (wounded); commander of the First Infantry Division (forward) in Germany; chief of staff to Alexander Haig; planned Pershing II missile deployments in Europe; commanded V Corps in Europe until relieved by Colin Powell. Ca. 1989 US Army 'Coat, Hot Weather, Woodland Camouflage Pattern, Combat', a B.D.U. style uniform but experimental or private purchase design with several features, notably the button pattern, that differ from an issue uniform. The coat has no sewn-in tags as is often the case with custom-made uniforms. Each collar side has a sewn-in, subdued patch of 3 stars for a lieutenant general, with a subdued V Corps sewn on the upper left sleeve. Sewn on his upper right breast is his subdued 'Wetzel' name tape patch, with a similar 'US Army' patch sewn to the left top breast pocket. Just above that appears a subdued patch for the second award of the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Very fine condition. Sold with an 8 x 10 in. color signed photo of Wetzel in uniform, along with 8pp. of biographical information. Very fine condition. From a major private collection on public display.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
