LOUIS XVI IS TO BE JUDGED BY THE CONVENTION NATIONAL
Rare imprint, 1p. 8vo., Paris, Dec. 3, 1792, ordering the soon-to-be-executed King Louis XVI to be held for trial by the National Convention. It reads, in part: '...DECREE OF THE NATIONAL CONVENTION, From December 3, 1792, the first year of the French Republic. Judgment of Louis Seize. THE NATIONAL CONVENTION declares that Louis Seize will be judged by it. IN THE NAME OF THE REPUBLIC, the Executive Council provides fair request & orders all the Administrative Bodies & Courts, that this present law they must configure in their registers, read, publish & display, & execute in their departments...we have affixed to it our signature and the badge of the republic. In Paris, the fifth day of the month of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two, the first year of the French Republic. Signed LEBRUN. Countersigned GARAT...' With bold red seal, in a simple glass frame. Fine. Louis XVI would of course be condemned and later beheaded, on January 21, 1793.
