Louis Pasteur 1822-1895 French chemist and biologist who developed antibodies for rabies and anthrax and disproved theories of spontaneous generation. A.L. S. 1p. 8vo., [Paris], June 10, 1876 to a gentleman, in french. In part: "...You know of the services the Association of the Friends of science has rendered and could still render. You could attract new subscribers [to the fund] by reproducing the enclosed short article with the call for donation... We would be very grateful...." Signed, adding his title. In his lifetime Pasteur did much to promote scientific and medical causes.
