Louis Joseph, Duc De Vendome 1654-1712 French general who commanded the French army in its capture of Barcelona (1697), crushed the Austrians at Calcinato (1706), captured Stanhope and defeated the English and Austrians in Spain in 1710 D. S. 2pp. sm. folio, "Au camp de Sanguinetto", May 24, 1703, apparently a commission for a dragoon who served in the battle for Luzanne. Bears bold signature "Louis de Vendome", with three unidentified dockets on verso. Light foxing and marginal mounting remnant, otherwise very good.
