664. BENJAMIN LINCOLN (1733-1810) American Revolution major general, commanding an army in the south, he was captured at Charleston and later exchanged. Secretary of War (1781-1783). Uncommon partly-printed D.S. as Collector of the Port of Boston, 1p. legal folio, Boston, Sept. 30, 1799, a certificate noting the collection of duties upon the contents of the Brig Maria commanded by Daniel Coffin recently sailing from Havana consisting of sugar. Most of the documents encountered from the port of Boston during Lincoln's tenure as collector bear secretarial versions of his signature. This is a very uncommon example. Light folds otherwise fine condition. $250-350
