LEWIS BENEDICT, JR.
(1817-1864) Union officer, saw action in the Peninsular Campaign, captured and imprisoned at the notorious Libby Prison, only then to be killed in action during the Red River Campaign. Scarce early A.D.S. "Lew: Benedict Jr." as "Surrogate" 1p. 4to., Albany, Aug. 24, 1847, an interesting legal document, advising "...On the fifth day of July A.D. 1844 before Anthony Blanchard Esquire Surrogate of said county, administration of all and singular the goods chattels & credits [of] Richard Towner late of the town of Watervliet in Said county was committed & given to Ann Towner and Daniel Harland...". Mounting traces on verso, else very good.
