Description:

LETTERS OF KLARA AND EMIL ROSENBERG, DIED AT THERESIENSTADT
Pair of letters written by a Jewish Czech husband and wife held at Theresienstadt, Emil and Klara Rosenberg who had lived in Prague. According to research with this lot, the couple were transported via Transport AAs from Prague on July 20, 1942 along with 1,000 other Jews, Klara on Transport 234, Emil on Transport 233. The letters mailed by these two doomed individuals were both sent from Theresienstadt, with only Klara's dated in September, 1944, in German and not translated but sent to individuals in Prague and certainly should be translated. Klara's letter also bears the stamp of the 'Altestenrat der Juden in Prag'. Included also are copies of a personnel document issued for Emil, Klara's death certificate issued at Theresienstadt, and color photos of both. Emil and Klara would spend an extended period of time in the cruel camp. Emil would be killed on Mar. 10, 1944, and Klara would die on Feb. 5, 1945, just a few months prior to the liberation of the camp. Overall very good condition. Besides being a transit camp, Theresienstadt also served as a holding pen for German, Austrian and Czech Jews. It was expected that the poor conditions there would hasten the deaths of many deportees, until the SS and police could deport the survivors to killing centers in the East. Of all the Jews in their original transport, only 35 survived the Holocaust.
