He opposed modern ideas in both religion and politics, condemned religious freedom and toleration, and Freemasonry, restored feudal aristocracy in the Papal States, restricted Jews to ghettos, and engaged in surveillance over all aspects of daily life. A.L.S. in the third person "Della Genga" as Archbishop of Tyre, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], July 12, 1794, in Italian. In part: "...Della Genga prays the very kind Mr. Lasagni to read the first paragraph of the enclosed letter to see the extravagance of the human being and then, please to seal it and save in a safe place. I wish to speak with you about it...". Fine.
