Description:

LATE U.S. M1 GARAND RIFLE BY SPRINGFIELD
Offered here is a scare, late production M1 Garand rifle, 43.5 in. long, semiautomatic, .30-06 caliber. There were only 6,152 Springfield M1 Garands produced in the 5.7 million serial number range. The stock is distinctly marked on the bottom of the semi-pistol grip with a sans-serifed ‘P' within a circle, no additional markings present, although lacking the oiler and barrel cleaner, the butt plate and stock exhibits typical trap door and storage pockets. Barrel features a blade front sight and adjustable peep rear sight, with a flush nut ‘DRC'-marked elevation knob. This Springfield barrel is marked ‘SA F 6535448 1 55 MD 49' with additional markings of a large 'P' and a small 'M'. Lower receiver is marked ‘A 5 3', and 'F 6528291', and on the bolt ‘6535382 SA'. The bolt, trigger housing, hammer, safety and uncut operating rod are all Springfield components. The seven-digit serial number ‘5796314' is stamped on the top rear of the receiver, also marked ‘U.S. RIFLE CAL .30 M1 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'. This serial number, combined with the markings on the barrel, indicate that this rifle was manufactured late in the M1's production run, this last Springfield run only consisted of just over 300,000 guns manufactured in 1955 and 1956. The parkerized finish to the rifle shows almost no wear or scratches, with only a few handling marks overall, slight wear to the finish on the edges of the bolt. The bore shows no pitting or oxidation, but does show some copper fouling to the grooves at the muzzle, with the crown well-defined and undamaged with some loss to bluing. The stock shows a few slight dings and other handling marks, commensurate with use. fitted with an olive drab webbing sling with sling buckles that show traces of black paint, and in very good condition. To the best of our knowledge, this rifle is completely original, with no evidence of any replacement parts. A true gem for both World War II and gun collectors. Fine condition overall.
