LANGSTON HUGHES
(1902 - 1967) Black American writer and poet who gained recognition with his poem "The Negro Speaks of Rivers". Bold sentiment and signature on the cover of an 8vo. program for The Columbia Theater's performance of his play The Barrier, Jan 23-28, 1950: "For Sol Sincerely Langston". Also signed by the female lead MURIEL RAHN and JAN MEYEROWITZ. The Barrier is a modern opera based on Hughes' play The Mulatto, a story set in the deep south of a white plantation owner, his black mistress, and their son. Original Jan. 25th ticket stub attached to an inner place, fine condition.
