Description:

LACE AND WALLPAPER FROM LINCOLN'S BOX AT FORD'S THEATRE
Superb relic from the night of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination on April 14, 1865: a large section of remarkably well-preserved Nottingham lace curtain (roughly 7" x 4") from Box 7 at Ford's Theatre. The boxes at Ford's Theatre were noted for their opulent settings, including the lace curtains and yellow draperies that hung across the boxes for occupants' privacy. Included with the lot is a 4 1/4" x 3" section of the maroon wallpaper adorning the box's walls. One wonders what Lincoln thought about the lace patterns - most likely one of his last lucid impressions - as he lay slumped and shot in Box 7. From the collection of Lincoln and Kennedy collector Dr. John D. Lattimer.
