Description:

KU KLUX KLAN POSTCARDS
Good pair of circa 1920''s color postcards, each 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", both depicting images related to the Ku Klux Klan of that era. The first features a colorized photo depicting a mounted Klansman in a burgundy robe with a white diamond trim, and with a red and white striped conical hood with full face mask. He clutches a triangular yellow banner emblazoned with the legend "KKK" in red, while his horse is covered with a full-body white drape with white crosses within red discs at the front. The image is captioned: "Regalia of Grand Cyclops K.K.K. Original now in U[nited] D[aughters] [of the] C[onfederacy] Chapter Room, at Florence, Alabama." The photo also bears the copyright of the Florence UDC, and the verso states that the card was published by them and printed in Germany. The postcard has been addressed to a recipient in Washington, and shows slight soiling and wear to the edges, else very good. The second card features an illustration of a KKK banner, a yellow triangle with a red border similar to the example seen in the preceding image, bearing at center a black dragon surrounded by the Latin motto: "Quod Semper, Quod Ubique, Quod Ab Omnibus". The illustration is captioned: "Banner Used by the Ku-Klux - Original now in North Carolina Room, Confederate Museum, Richmond, Virginia". The verso of the card states that it was published by the Guilford Chapter, North Carolina Division Daughters of the Confederacy in Greensboro, N.C. Both cards show minor soling with slight edge wear, else very good. Two pieces.
