Description:

Kriegsmarine-issue wristwatch. A manually wound movement wristwatch, with tan web and black buckle strap. Watch displays the original military style dial, bearing the markings 'K.M.' and '592' on the white toned face. Also present is a spider web shaped metal crystal protector secured in place by the wrist strap. This is an incredibly rare vintage 1930s German made watch for the Kriegsmarine, or German Navy. Known as the 'D' service wristwatch of the German Kriegsmarine, officers and sailors used this exact watch during WWII service. The entire watch is 100% original 1930-40's production, with the exception of the cloth web wristband, apparently a 1960's NATO production wristband. This watch has a beautiful original brass case with polished nickel silver plate finish, and a stainless-steel screw-back. The 1.25 in. dial is in excellent condition, showing only a few minor stains, but free of other damage. The main face displays the hour-digits, as well as a sub-dial displaying the seconds movement, inset at the six o'clock position. Both are clear and working. The seconds sub-dial, featured at the bottom of the face indicates this is an earlier production model. Luminous paint is present on steel baton hands and the hour indicators. Case is in excellent condition. Reverse of the case features the standard six indent screw back and shows the issue/serial number of '331595' and bears no other markings. During production of these watches, the German government gave contracts and the requirements for military style watches, to various watch companies. They in turn sometimes hired subcontractors to actually produce the watches, resulting in many of them never bearing a maker's mark. This is one of those subcontract watches. In perfect working order. Overall, very good.
