Description:

KRIEGSMARINE SUMMER TUNIC, IDENTIFIED
Kriegsmarine officer''s summer tunic identified to Korvettenkapitan Hans-Jurgen Weissenborn, with "Kiel" issue tag and dated 1939. This attractive white cotton tunic bears sewn-in shoulder boards with screw-on buttons, with the front buttons and pocket buttons secured with split rings, as expected. There are four scalloped pockets, with no vent in the rear. Soiling and wear is light, commensurate with age. Weissenborn was awarded the German Cross in Gold, EKI, EKII, Destroyer Badge, and Fleet War Badge, the tunic having loops for the Iron Cross and one other award. Original Kriegsmarine eagle remains pinned to the right breast. The tag issuing the tunic and bearing Weissenborn''s name is sewn to the lower right hem. Overall very good. Born in Kiel in 1917, Weissenborn joined the Kriegsmarine in 1937 and commanded minesweepers until 1943. On Nov. 12, 1943 he commanded two R-boats in the Battle of Leros (Greece) and at war''s end he was active in securing the Danish border.
