Description:

KRIEGSMARINE SENIOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (ENGINEER) FOUL WEATHER LEATHER JACKET AND PANTS
Excellent set of Kriegsmarine black leather outer garments worn in bad weather by both surface and U-boat sailors. The single-breasted jacket has five anchor-and rope Kriegsmarine buttons closing the front, and is fitted with two waist pockets and one chest pocket. Sewn-in shoulder boards are secured at the ends by similar buttons. Each bears two "pips" indicating rank and a brass engineer emblem, the entire shoulder board surrounded by gold metallic braid. Within, this jacket is fully lined in black wood, slightly worn from use at bottom. All of the metal buttons, braid, etc. show green oxidation commensurate with exposure to dampness onboard. Also present is a pair of matching leather pants which were typically worn above the waist, button fly, with strap waist adjustment and buttons for suspenders. But for the oxidation to the fittings, the jacket and pants remain smooth, supple, and but for a few small scratches beneath one waist pocket, are in excellent condition. Provenance: TIME-LIFE Collection; The War Museum.
