KNIGHTS CROSS RECIPENTS (6)
Good lot of various items signed by notable Knights Cross recipients. Included is: GERHARD MATZKY (1894–1983), German general who commanded several corps. His signed pieces include: an S.P., 2.5 x 3 in., b/w, Matzky in his general's uniform, signed below his image adding on the verso: ‘As a Corps commander on the Eastern front in 1944.'. Included also is an A.L.S., 1p. 12mo., [n.p.,n.d.], in English, reading in part: ‘Many thanks for your letter describing your very interesting collection. To my regards I scarcely will have the chance to visit them, with respect to my age. But I remember with great pleasure your nice country of West Virginia from my passage through the USA in 1928. By the way, I am interested to learn where you know me from. In my opinion, it is not a very much worth mentioning since I have been a solider like many others here. Nevertheless, you will [find] enclosed the two wanted fotos, as a little contribution...'. With transmittal envelope addressed to a Joseph Nevera Jr. WITH: HUBERTUS-MARIA RITTER VON HEIGL (1897-1985), German general and Knights Cross recipient, commander of Pionier-Bataillon 70 which crushed Russian forces and guerillas at Eupatoria in 1942, and S.P., 3.5 x 5 in., b/w, in uniform signed in full adding rank in the lower margin, along with a full military biography 1p. 4to. [n.p.], 1977. With transmittal envelope, which is hand-addressed by Heigl to Norman Lunning. Very good condition. Six pieces.
