KLIMENT Y. VOROSHILOV
(1881-1969) Soviet military officer and politician who served as Stalin's defense minister, reorganized the general staff, mechanized the army, and developed the air force. Very unusual D.S. 4pp. lg. folio, Jan. 28, 1928, the ‘Author's Edition' sheet music for the military march for two hands titled ‘Budenny' by composer Dmitri Pokrass, boldly approved and twice signed diagonally in red indelible ink by Voroshilov on the cover: ‘Approve K. Voroshilov 28/1/1928', adding beneath: ‘P.S. I think Comrade Budenny will like it. K. Voroshilov'. Dmitry Pokrass (1899-1978) was a noted Jewish-Russian composer of he Stalinist era. The principal conductor and musical director of the Moscow music hall at the time of this item, he was the composer of many popular songs and film scores, as well as military marches such as this one honoring field marshal Semion Budenny. Slight toning to edges and wear to corners, otherwise very good.
