EPHRAIM KIRBY (1757 - 1804) American jurist, volunteered during the Revolution, seeing action in nineteen battles and receiving thirteen wounds, later published the influential volume "Reports of Cases Adjudged in the Superior Court of the State of Connecticut, from the year 1785, to May, 1788". Partial war-date A.L.S. 1p. legal folio, Dec. 3, 1777, the concluding page (only) of a letter to Abraham Kirby, his brother [?], in part: "...Get a furlough and stay at home the most of this winter; if we have the Lord's blessing upon our arms here...I hope we'll soon end this unhappy war, and I think we have a fair prospect for it...It grieves me much that through the whole campaign I have not read one line from home...".
