MUHAMMAD AYUB KHAN (1907-1980) First four star general of Pakistan, later field marshal. He became de facto president of Pakistan by overthrowing the regime of Iskander Mira (1958). Elected president in 1962, only to be forced to step down due to civil unrest in 1969. Scarce T.L.S. on presidential letterhead, 1p. 4to., Nov. 14, 1963 to journalist Arnold Michaelis who had interviewed him. In part: "...Thank you for taking the trouble to make my views known to the general public at large...I hope that they are now better informed of true facts of life on this sub-continent...".
