405. JACK KEROUAC Superb original signed artwork, 4" x 5", ca. 1965, executed in dark pencil, a full-standing Madonna figure wearing a gown and with a rosary held in both hands. To the figure's right is an orange-tinted object; one could make a case for it being a burning bush. In the background is a stylized wolf baying at the moon which Kerouac has tinted white. Signed "Kerouac" in block letters at lower-right, to which the poet added an accent above his name so it would be pronounced in its original French-Canadian manner. Tape stains at top and bottom margin, some heavy horizontal creases, else very good. Kerouac was baptized a Roman Catholic, but adopted the teaching of Buddhism early in his writing career. $3,000-4,000
