Description:

1085. MYLES W. KEOGH (1842 - 1876) American military officer, a captain in the 7th Cavalry in command of Co. I. Keogh was the owner of Comanche, the only surviving horse found on the battlefield. Very rare A.L.S "M. W. Keogh", 4pp. 8vo., "Camp near Fort Hays, Ks.", May 9, 1869 to his brother Tom. In small part: "...I was included in the number of retired officers nor do not expect to be. You must not abuse my adopted country until I shall have in person given you some better idea of it...We are in camp here for the summer...quite a number of ladies out here already...things are very gay...if nothing occurs to me or to this Army I shall always have a house here for you...I have a position envied by many, not alone in the army but in society...". Very good. $2,000 - 3,000
