489. ROBERT KENNEDY, JR. (b. 1954) Prominent American attorney and environmental activist. Fine A.L.S. "Bobby Kennedy" 1p. 4to., written on yellow lined paper from Guaynabo Prison in San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 18, 2001 to Leah. Kennedy, as Prison #21553-069, writes: "...I'm so sorry about your Mom. You can be grateful for all the years you spent giving love to her. Now she will pray for you from heaven...". At the time of this letter, Kennedy had been arrested and sentenced to 30 days in jail for trespassing on government lands in protest to the continued bombing of Vieques Island in Puerto Rico. On the very day of this letter, Kennedy and his wife named their newborn son after Vieques: "Aiden Caohman Vieques Kennedy". Along with an S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, inscribed at bottom blank margin.
