Description:

Good set of three mimeographed press releases, each the transcript of an address given by the President of the United States, and each produced by the Office of the White House Press Secretary. The first, 6pp. legal folio, presents President JOHN F. KENNEDY'S June 6, 1961 address given upon his return from France, Austria and England, in which he describes his meetings with Charles de Gaulle in Paris, Harold McMillan in London, and most importantly, with Nikita Khrushchev in Vienna. Of these, Kennedy discusses the conference with Khrushchev in greatest detail, addressing the crisis in Laos, a possible ban on nuclear testing, and the rising global tide of Communism. The second transcript, 8pp. legal folio, presents Kennedy's July 25, 1961 address on the Berlin Crisis, which culminated in the erection of the Berlin Wall. Kennedy promises not to allow the expulsion of NATO troops from West Berlin, and proposes increases to the numbers of military personnel on active duty, an expansion of the draft rolls, and increased military funding. Above all, however, he emphasizes the importance of finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis. The third transcript, 3pp. legal folio, presents President LYNDON B. JOHNSON'S July 2, 1963 address on his signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which broadly outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. All show moderate toning, else very good. Also present are two copies of a 3pp. 4to. mimeographed biography of President Kennedy, also produced by the Press Secretary's office. Five pieces.
