Description:

Interesting lot relating to the trial of SS Obergruppenfuhrer and prominent Sudeten German Nazi official in Czechoslovakia, Karl Hermann Frank. Frank was instrumental in implementing Hitler's orders for revenge which included the destruction of the Czech villages of Lidice and Lezaky, the murder of their male inhabitants, and the deportation to concentration camps of the women and young adults. This lot includes: a ticket to his trial held at the People's Court in Prague in March of 1946. The 4.5 x 2 in. ticket belonged to and is signed by DR. LEOPOLD CHMELA (1894-1962) an officer in the Czechoslovak Army of the First Republic and forensics expert, who later wrote a book offering his expert opinion on the Frank trial. Frank was convicted and executed by hanging on March 22, 1946; WITH two original nearly identical photographs of Frank, 3.5 in. x 5.5 in. b/w, depicting him on a raised platform as he awaits the noose after his trial in 1946. Onlookers can be seen in the window behind him; WITH a 3.5 x 5.5 in. b/w, close-up photograph of Frank at the noose, appearing to be a trimmed copy of an original, and a celebratory envelope honoring the capture of Frank by the U.S. Army in Rokycany; WITH a collection of six Czech newspapers reporting on the arrest of war criminal Karl Hermann Frank in Prague on May 9, 1945. Some detail the actual arrest, while others reveal certain atrocities including his part in the massacre of residents of the town of Lidice. Conditions vary, but overall very good.
