Description:

KARL DONITZ
(1891 - 1980) German admiral who headed the U-Boat arm of the German Navy, later succeeded Hitler as Fuehrer after Hitler's suicide. Fine content A.L.S. "Donitz" on his personal letterhead, 2pp. 12mo., Hochsauerland, Feb. 20, 1975 concerning Gunther Prien, the U-boat captain who maneuvered into the British anchorage at Scapa Flow and sand the battleship Royal Oak. In part: "...I thank you very much for your letter. Undoubtedly, Scapa Flow was a good undertaking. I had planned it and tactically developed the access and egress...and then I had asked Prien if he wanted to risk it. He agreed after considering all the documentation, and then also mastered it...". Boldly penned, fine.
