Description:

JUNIOR KU KLUX KLAN LEADER''S GROUPING
Rare grouping of approx. 30 letters, forms, flyers, etc. from the files of a Ku Klux Klan chapter''s secretary in Altoona, Pa., ca. 1925. The city was one of the most active centers of Klan recruitment in the Northeast. This grouping includes materials used to recruit, organize and indoctrinate male youths, 12-18 years old into the "Junior Ku Klux Klan". Included is: a printed "Instruction Manual" for group directors, "Imperial Palace, Atlanta", 1925, 8pp, 4to., detailed instructions on collecting dues, registering applicants, robes, etc.; six 4pp. "Educational Studies" booklets, including "The Negro - His Relation to America", an absolutely incredible piece of pseudo-scientific hate which, for example, regrets that the negro "is breeding too fast" to "exterminate", along with screeds on "America First", an attack on parochial schools, and a study on Klan heroes Grant and Lee; an organizational; chart; four circular letters, a "fact" pamphlet for potential members; a bound copy of the organization''s Constitution and By-Laws; a bound "Kloran" setting forth meeting procedures; a receipt for a copy of a "Kloran" signed by three junior members; and about twenty membership cards and "interest" cards. Very good.
