Description:

(JULY 20 PLOT) FRITZ LINDEMANN
FRITZ LINDEMANN (1894-1944) German officer in the Wehrmacht and member of the resistance to Adolf Hitler. Lindemann served as commander of the 132nd Infantry Division before appointment as Chief of Staff of the Artillery O.K.H. It was proposed that he would read the conspirators' proclamation to the German people over the radio, but he did not appear at the Bendlerblock on 20 July 1944 in order to do so. After the failure of the 20 July plot, he went into hiding. When the Gestapo came to arrest him, Lindemann tried to jump out of a window. However, he was shot in his leg and stomach, and later died in the hospital from his injuries. Very rare probable war-date A.L.S., 2pp. 8vo., [Vienna], Aug. 31 [n.y., probably 1945] to an unknown individual. Not fully translated but very bleak in places. In part: '...the death toll is already three times higher...there are some quarters...in which there is no mention of the dead...These parts are now closed. In general, the health of the population is excellent...Tomorrow, the soldiers will come...to improve the health...I'm not planning on returning to our country...But I'm still holing off on this decision. You can enjoy these strange investigations...' Fine condition, worthy of a proper translation.
