Description:

(JULY 20 BOMB PLOT CONSPIRATORS) FRIEDRICH VON RABENAU
FRIEDRICH VON RABENAU (d. 1945) German military officer and Chief of the German Army Archives, implicated in the July 20 bomb plot on Hitler's life. Though a member of the resistance movement, he was apparently not a member of the plot. Executed at Flossenburg on April 15, 1945, on the specific order of SS head Heinrich Muller, only days before the war's end. His death was mysteriously attributed to 'low-flying allied aircraft', indicating that he may have known a great deal of confidential information about Germany's military personnel. Rare signed book, his Seecht: Aus seinen Leben 1918-1936 (Leipzig: v. Hale & Koeher, 1940), 751pp. 8vo., hardbound with linen boards and bearing the original dustjacket. Boldly inscribed and signed in German on the first free endpaper, not translated. Signed: ‘F. v. Rabenau Im Juni 1941'. Spine loosened, corners bumped, wear to dustjacket and bearing an ownership label on interior front cover, still very good.
