Description:

(JUAN PUJOL - 'GARBO') CYRIL B. MILLS
CYRIL B. MILLS (1902-1991) British circus owner, a member of MI-5 who was for a time handler of the famous Spanish spy JUAN PUJOL (1912-1988) and who gave Pujol his famous nickname 'Garbo'. Superb content T.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 8vo., London, June 18, 1984, mentioning naming his famous charge. In part: '...in case you do not know which Mills you are dealing with I enclose one of the visiting cards I used before I retired. The card which reads Member of M.I.5 should read 1940-45. I suppose you must have spotted my name in the article about the famous double agent whom I named GARBO in the Sunday Mail of June 3rd. The man has now gone home but will return to this country in about a month and if you want his signature I will try to obtain it for you but I think that if you are going to ask for it you should first obtain from your news agent a copy of Mail on Sunday of June 3rd as without it the signature will mean very little...' Very good. Juan Pujol was a Spanish spy who acted as a double agent loyal to Great Britain against Nazi Germany during World War II, when he relocated to Britain to carry out fictitious spying activities for the Germans. He had a key role in the deception operation intended to mislead the Germans about the timing, location and scale of the invasion of Normandy in 1944.
